Sophie Keel
Second Grade Lead Teacher
Sophie has been working in elementary schools around the Hudson Valley since 2017. Years of working alongside the amazing community of children and educators at Morse Elementary in Poughkeepsie, NY inspired her to enroll in the dual Master’s in childhood education and NYS certification program at SUNY New Paltz. After graduating in 2021, she went on to work in countless PreK-4th grade classrooms and will be forever in debt to the many educators of Duzine elementary who generously shared their wisdom and expertise regarding how to lead, teach and inspire young children in the classroom and beyond. The educators who teach with wide-open, loving hearts and who seize every possible opportunity to educate each child about their own complex, beating, fluttering and sometimes, hurting heart, left the biggest imprint on Sophie. In 2009, she earned her BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR. Her undergrad education and lived experiences have inspired an ongoing study of multicultural historical narratives and ways of thinking within the U.S. and the World. She prioritizes teaching all children to celebrate, be curious about and knowledgeable of human diversity, as well as, their own place in the global community. She is grateful to have found a home, as an educator, in the delightfully radical and progressive community of HMS.Â
