Specialty Camp Week 3

Wilderness Artisans & Fire Keepers

Focus on traditional earth skills including fire-making techniques, shelter

building, natural material crafting (basketry, cordage), soapstone carving, and

woodworking. Campers develop practical wilderness skills while creating

beautiful, functional objects. Each day includes a rich blend of hands-on learning experiences:

  • Earth Living Skills: Fire-making (bow drill, flint & steel), shelter construction, tool use, rope and cordage making

  • Nature Crafting: Soapstone carving, woodwork projects, natural dyes, basketry, nature art

  • Ecology & Exploration: Wildlife ID, plant identification, Water purification, habitat observation, nature journaling

  • Nature-Based Games & Team Building: Cooperative games, awareness activities, storytelling, sensory exploration

  • Friday Meal Share Tradition: Each Friday to close out the program, campers participate in a communal meal preparation and fire cooking experience. Each participant is assigned ingredients to bring, and the group collaboratively prepares and cooks a meal over an open fire. This culminating activity builds community, teaches practical cooking skills, and celebrates the week's learning. Note: Monday–Thursday, campers bring their own lunch.
