About the Course

This program is geared for all aspiring youth artists, especially those who are interested in applying for art-focused high schools or AP/IB Art tracks.

Focusing on portfolio development, students will learn core artistic principles while exploring concept creation, transforming personal reflection and creative imagination into finished work on paper. Modeled after admission requirements at top specialized arts schools such as LaGuardia, Frank Sinatra, and Art & Design, these skills establish a strong foundation for competitive high school audition portfolios and advanced art tracks.

Students will draw from life, using self-portraits and still lifes. They will individually select and gather objects, then light and arrange them to reflect their unique vision.

Students will also participate in group-wide peer reviews, fostering a supportive and active artistic community. They will practice communicating their creative process and engage in thoughtful, constructive critiques with peers and teachers.

The course will finish with an end-of-session exhibition in the community, giving students the experience of preparing work for display, writing artist statements, welcoming visitors, and holding artist talks throughout the show. This builds immense confidence, professional pride, and community connection.
