Traditional School Community Events:

Specific information including dates for these events is distributed by the PTO throughout the school year and/or is listed on the Academic Calendar. High Meadow School parents are encouraged to contact their Class Parent with any questions about any of these events.

New Family Gathering: during this informal event the PTO, staff and administration induct families into the life and culture of High Meadow School. This family event is held on the Wednesday before the first day of school.

Community Night: this event is held on the first Tuesday evening after the first day of school. During this parent only event, teachers, administrators, staff and the Board of Trustee members are introduced, school handbooks are distributed and committee opportunities are announced.

The Thanksgiving Celebration: This long standing tradition at High Meadow School is celebrated with singing, presentations and food.

Solstice Celebrations: are observed in different ways by all the classes. The Pre-K thru 2nd grades perform a short presentation for parents. Students in 3rd through 8th grades participate in the Winter Arts Festival.

Immersion Week: this is an annual, week-long, school-wide event. During this magical week, the entire school studies a place or theme as a cohort. The physical campus is transformed physically, spiritually, and pedagogically to reflect the culture being studied. Teachers and students explore these places through the arts, food, fiction and non-fiction literature and more. Parents are a critical element delivering fact and craft workshops and providing attire such as costumes, artifacts and decorations.

This year, Immersion Week will run April 7th – April 14th. The focus will be on The European Union and it will commence on Thursday, April 7th with a Gathering -
Vanaver Caravan – Dances of the World presentation. Here is what each class is doing:

Toddlers – Denmark
Pre-K – Spain
Kindergarten – Belgium
1st – Ireland
2nd – Scotland
3rd & 4th – Holland
5 & 6th – Poland
7th & 8th – Austria

Help Decorating – Wed. April 6th

Teachers need help transforming the school on Wed. 4/6 after 3 pm… please reach out to your class parent or teacher if you are able to help. If you have a special connection to any of the countries listed above (experience with the culture or history, photographs, books, clothing etc….) and could offer materials/advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Baking Needed

Teachers are asking with help preparing desserts. Each child will have a European Union passport and will visit the other ‘countries’ where a small dessert will be shared. Please reach out to your class parent if you are able to help with baking.

Cost

Each family is asked to contribute $10 for Immersion Week to help with the cost of special activities and materials.

Upper school plays: these are curriculum-related original or adapted works.

Dance recitals: these performances are a culmination of the year’s work and are held in the Spring.

The Art Show: this Spring event is an exhibition of our children’s extraordinary artwork.

Ensemble Night: this is the culminating event for the upper school string, percussion band and voice ensembles.

End of Year Ceremonies: these events are held on the last day of school. The first event is focused on Pre-K through 4th grades and includes student performances. The second event is focused on 5th through 8th grades and includes student performances.
