On the launch of High Meadow School’s new website

Posted on by Michelle

I’m excited about the launch of the new High Meadow School website and the capabilities it will provide. Our new website provides the capability for new families to get more specific information about life and learning at High Meadow School. In addition, it will provide the High Meadow community the ability to connect with each other via the bulletin board, the ability to get more current updates via the new calendar feature and allow the community to connect directly with the administration about questions.

It’s great to reflect on where you were and where you’re going. I suppose because I was involved in writing the text for the website, I found the process of creating the website has really been a reflective process as well.

I’m thankful for the efforts of Doug Motel (High Meadow School parent and founder of Site Optimized) who worked hard to keep the site reflective of who and what High Meadow School is without making it a slick and glossy looking site. Still, he was able to use those slick and glossy site tools and invest the time needed to hone the site so it works for the High Meadow School community. The text has also gone through quite a few eyeballs at this point. High Meadow parent Terry Baron among others reviewed every word. Many teachers, parents, and students were enlisted to read and respond to the site as it developed, and their wisdom led to important changes. We want to thank Eli McClatchy for the drawing, which elicits such warm feelings about the school. And much thanks to Pat Thompson for your keen eye, and excellent homepage text.

It was 3 years ago when Bud Clarke (then a High Meadow School parent, Chair of High Meadow School’s Board of Trustees and co-owner of Clarke-Thompson Designs, the ad agency that represents the school) got a bee in his bonnet to create a user friendly school website site that captures as best it could the effable qualities of High Meadow School as a whole while also providing more substantive information, allowing for the practical concerns of registration and enabling the community to connect with each other. He always wanted the school’s website to be a meeting place and I think we’re pretty close to his vision.
