Spanish

Students at High Meadow begin their exposure to Spanish in Pre-Kindergarten, where games, songs, and kinesthetic activities are used to instill a love of the language and a familiarity with its cadence and basic vocabulary. As the students move through the grades, the learning becomes more and more complex and the teaching more direct.

As the students enter the middle grades they begin to engage in conversation, build vocabulary, and learn the rules of spelling and grammar. Yet, we do not forget the importance of creativity and movement in the development of language, and employ Total Physical Response and Brain Gym techniques as part of the array of teaching tools we employ to build body memory of the language. Students in the upper school write skits, read literature, and conduct conversations in Spanish.
