Science

Building curiosity, observation skills, research discipline, a body of knowledge, and a sense of wonder, are the central goals of our science program, beginning in pre-kindergarten.

Our youngest children begin with the observable world, asking questions, reading non-fiction, gathering data, and making sense of their world. This is their first exposure to the basic components of the scientific method. As they proceed through the grades students gather a body of knowledge in the physical, earth, and biological sciences through reading and research, experiments and hands-on activities, presenters, and field experiences in the nearby mountains.

Many of our classes have partnerships with Mohonk Preserve and other environmental organizations dedicated to building stewardship skills among young people. These courses focus on eco-system studies, key current issues in science, and engage students in applying the scientific method to solving global environmental problems.
