HIGH MEADOW SCHOOL

History: From Dreams A School Emerges…

In the early 80’s, a group of parents guided by Mimi Labourdette, the school’s founder, became active in creating an elementary school that would embody a vision they had for their children’s education. In 1984, High Meadow School emerged from this dream and opened on Brook Farm at the foot of Mohonk Mountain. The natural beauty of the setting inspired the early vision of the school and its commitment to surrounding children with beauty and a curriculum inspired by the natural world. Dedicated parents and staff worked diligently to create a program that was academically strong, child-centered and committed to artistic expression.

In 1992, having outgrown the farmhouse at Brook Farm, High Meadow School moved to its current site- a historic mansion in Stone Ridge, NY. The school continued to grow adding grades 7 and 8 and expanded the campus. The mansion was enlarged, a freestanding structure (affectionately called “The Nest”) was added to house the middle grades and a 3rd structure “The Barn” now houses grades 5 – 8 as well as the Performing Arts and Athletic Center or PAC.
