BUILDINGS & GROUNDS
Our classrooms are spacious and comfortable, and are flooded with natural light streaming through large windows and skylights. Walls are bright with the children's work, and each room is bursting with tools and materials with which to teach and explore.

FACULTY
Our teaching staff includes some of the most experiencSed, creative and knowledgeable instructors in the Hudson Valley. They are committed to maintaining the highest level of education possible, and to providing a learning environment where children love to be.

PHILOSOPHY
High Meadow is based on the progressive education philosophy. At the very heart of progressive education lie four principles:

  1. Education should prepare students to participate actively in a free, diverse, and democratic society.
  2. The learner should be at the center of the classroom experience.
  3. Education should be intrinsically, not extrinsically motivating.
  4. Teachers are the researchers in their classroom and are in collaboration with each other and the child to find the best way for that child to learn.

High Meadow School subscribes to the idea that students learn best and adults work best in an environment in which they hae authority and responsibility. Student and teacher initiative is as the cornerstone of daily life. Teachers and administrators work together to organize and reflect upon school policy, curriculum, culture and whole-school events. Likewise, students work with teachers to organize and reflect upon classroom policy, culture, curricular choices, and community service.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION/TRANSFORMATIVE MEDIATION
Conflicts are solved through non-violent conflict resolution practices learned in the classroom withour Conflict Counselor. The transformative model focuses on building effective communication techniques as the critical means for resolving disputes, thus developing a foundation for participating fully in democracy.
